Conservative Party of Canada meets to elect next leader

Members of the Conservative Party of Canada met on Saturday in Toronto to elect the next leader of the party, who would become the Leader of the Official Opposition.

Thirteen candidates are in the running to replace former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, although Kevin O’Leary, who withdrew from the race, remains on the ballot.

The next leader, chosen by a ranked ballot, won’t be announced until later on in the night. The results of the first six rounds will be announced at approximately 5:45 EST, with the results of the next rounds announced at regular intervals afterwards.

The conference will kick off at 5:00 with tributes to Interim Leader Rona Ambrose, who recently announced she would be leaving federal politics after today’s vote.
