Andrew Scheer has overtaken Maxime Bernier on the 13th and final ballot to become the next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. In doing so, he will also become the next leader of the Official Opposition.
Bernier led the vote until the 12th ballot, leading at points by 6%, until his lead dropped to 2% following Brad Trost’s elimination.
The votes from Erin O’Toole, who placed in third, went mostly to Scheer, allowing him to overtake Bernier and pass the 50% mark.
Scheer gathered 51% of the points.
