Romania abandons controversial decree following massive protests

After thousands of Romanian citizens took to the streets in protest of a bill that would decriminalize corruption in certain cases, the government has announced it would no longer support it.

The bill would have, along with pardoning convicts and reducing sentences, protected the president of the ruling party from being sentenced to jail.

Reports estimate more than 300,000 people protested the bill, which they claimed was unconstitutional. The bill will be repealed on Sunday.
