Today in World History: January 14th

The Árpád dynasty of Hungary, which lasted about 600 years, ended on this day in 1301. With the death of Andrew III, the dynasty had no more eligible heirs. The dynasty began with the Magyar nomads who invaded Bullgaria in the late 800s. Led by their king, Árpád, they settled down and formed the Kingdom of Hungary. They eventually expanded to cover much of the Balkans. Later, the Anjou family rose to power in Hungary, ending the Árpád family in Hungary.
