Today in World History: January 8th

Cape Colony, which contained Cape Town, became part of the British Empire on this day in 1806. Situated at the tip of Africa, now part of South Africa, Cape Town had been seized by the British from the Dutch Colonists, who after merging with the African natives, became known as the Boers. After a series of wars known as the Boer Wars, the English expanded their empire and eventually went on to conquer the rest of South Africa.
