Today in World History: December 14th

Mary Stuart, the daughter of King James I of Scotland, was coronated as Queen of Scotland on this day in 1542. Known better as Mary, Queen of Scots, she fled from the throne of Scotland after an uprising and retreated to the castle of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England. Deemed as a threat by the young queen, Mary was imprisoned in London, where she was eventually executed in 1587.

“In my end is my beginning.”

-Mary Queen of Scots
