Today in World History: December 8th

The Beatles, the  most successful musical group act of all time, consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. In 1980, at the age of forty, John Lennon was murdered on December 8th. After returning to his home in New York City, Lennon was shot by a fan who had had Lennon’s latest album signed by Lennon earlier that day. Lennon died later that day, after being shot three times in the back. He is still recognized as being part of one of the world’s most influential bands, and his song, “Imagine”, is still an anthem for peace.

“We’ve got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can’t just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it’s going to get on by itself. You’ve got to keep watering it. You’ve got to really look after it and nurture it.”
