Today in World History: December 7th

Pearl Harbor, a U.S. military base in Hawaii, was bombed on this day in 1941 by Japanese fighter planes. Suspecting future U.S. alliance to the Allied Powers, the Japanese launched a pre-emptive strike, bombing the island and in the process killing more than a thousand soldiers died. The attack brought the U.S. into the war, marking the beginning of the end of the Allied Powers. Only three years later, the United States would be part of the Normandy Landings that would retake France from the power of Germany, and in 1945, blow up the city of Hiroshima.
